His urban story serves as a mirror for our mental state right now. When did the act of recording moments become content creation? Since when has scrolling supplanted life? A lighthearted story about friendship that tackles pain and loneliness in the internet era quickly transforms into a sinister romantic thriller.
The story by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Yash Sahai, and Arjun is stressful and a little meandering, but the writers deftly incorporate the class divide into the drama. It's all relatable, from influencers pushing lifestyles that they couldn't afford to Adarsh Gourav's Neil, an aspirational fitness teacher who feels bad about himself for not measuring up.
With a few exceptions, most of Zoya-Reema's literature addresses issues of the first world, and while it is real, it also exists in a privileged setting. Some portions of the plot seem unclear. The viewer is left to imagine a great deal. Few roommates share a kitchen or a budget. The story is overshadowed by the unsettling, enigmatic handling, even though a bit more information on the co-living arrangement would have been helpful. Every scene makes you uneasy and makes you think that something terrible is going to happen. Both the main performances and the intention are spot on.
Siddhant Chaturvedi gives Imaad a unique blend of tenderness and cold-blooded haughtiness. Ananya demonstrates that she is more than just a nepotistic child. She draws you into her insecurities and concerns. Adarsh Gourav sticks by you while he deftly exposes Neil's suppressed rage and inner pain.
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is a frightening contemporary horror film that dares to make you face reality. It is incredibly topical. It will cause you to pause before sharing that pointless selfie or pursuing that time-waster/energy-drainer.
